Rate Change Information by Model - IN-760 > Priority Mail to Military APO Destinations

• While items can be shipped to Military APOs via various mail rates, the instructions are only used when sending items using Priority Mail to Military APOs.
• Military APOs 090xx and 962xx.
• When shipping to an APO using Priority mail you must first identify what zone (substitution zone) the USPS has assigned that corresponds to your local zip. This needs to be done once and then from then on use this zip code (substitution zip code) as your APO zip code entry into the mailing system.
Basic Steps For Priority Mail APOs
1. Before using your mailing systems, access your local zone chart at:
  https://postcalc.usps.com/DomesticZoneChart
2. Enter the first 3 digits of your origin zip code and press submit. Your zone chart will be displayed.
  For example:
  • Enter 067.
3. Look to the bottom of the zone chart for the (+) 5-Digit Exceptions.
4. Determine the proper substitution zone to use.
  Example:
  • For 090XX use (or substitute) zone 5.
  • For 962XX use (or substitute) zone 5.
  In this example using 090XX, we need a substitution zone of zone 5.
5. Looking at the zone chart determine a destination zip code that matches the proper substitution zone to use.
  Example:
  • Origin zip code to military APO of 090XX requires a substitution zone of zone 5.
6. Enter the substitute destination zip code into your mailing system. Your mailing system will now calculate the proper rate.
  Example:
  • For origin zip 067, substitute a zone 5 destination in place of 090xx or 962xx such as 636XX (63600) for Priority Mail.
  
  This needs to be done once and then from then on use this zip code (substitution zip code) as your APO zip code entry into the mailing system.
